Bauxite Crusher

Bauxite is one of the most important industrial minerals and it being the aluminium ore, is the principal raw material for the production of alumina. Bauxite is also used as an important raw material for many other products like Alumina, Cement, Abrasives, High strength proppant, Emery, Alum etc.. Mined bauxite resembles small red pebbles, called pisolites, averaging about five millimetres in diameter.

Bauxite Mining

Most of the bauxite production is via open pit mining or surface mines, the rest are underground exacvations. On some surface deposits there is no overburden, and on others, the bauxite may be covered by 70 metres or more of rock and clay. Deposits that are hardened may require blasting in order to release the ore. Once the bauxite is loosened into manageable pieces it is generally loaded into trucks or railroad cars and transported to crushing or washing plants or to stockpiles.

Underground bauxite mines are used to exploit pockets or beds of deposit between layers of carbonic rock. Water in flow is a problem in most underground operations and dewatering shafts are often drilled before mining begins.

The primary stone crusher can take rocks as large as 1.5m in diameter. By the time the ore comes through the other end the biggest rocks are less than 180mm. A secondary crushing plant further reduces the size to less than 30mm. The crushed ore is fed into a stockpile, ready to be carried by conveyor belt to the refinery.
